Begin Dog Toilet Training Early To Ensure
Success
The food your pup eats can greatly affect
not only its overall health , but dog toilet training as
well . If you are feeding your dog low quality food
,digestion problems may occur .You will see excessively
loose stools that appear out of nowhere, which will cause
more accidents and more headaches for you.
Creating
a consistent feeding schedule and sticking to it are
important. Bring your dog outside fifteen minutes
or so after a meal, as this is generally the time when
they need to defecate or urinate. If the pup it does not
do his business at that time , bring him back out a few
minutes later to give him another chance .
Repeat until
successful.
Give
high praise each time he successfully toilets in the
appropriate place . Positive reinforcement is always used
in any training situation . Signs that he needs to toilet
include sniffing and circling about, searching for a
spot. We will now discuss various techniques that can be
used to house break here on .
Keep
in mind that this process will require a great deal of
patience on your part , and will not happen overnight .
There are several techniques available to keep the mess
down to a minimum when your dog must be left alone
.
For
puppies under twelve weeks of age, prepare a small room
to use as a den. A laundry room is ideal for this
purpose. Cover the entire floor with newspaper
and prepare
a bed. This area is also where he will be fed . Dog
toilet training in this manner is effective because
certain instincts begin to develop .
After
some time has passed, you will notice he has chosen a
particular spot in which to defecate and urinate. At this
point, slowly reduce the amount of paper on the floor
until there is only one sheet left. You can now very
slowly begin moving this paper, inch by inch to your
desired toileting location.
For
puppies over twelve weeks who have shown bowel and
bladder control, crate training is very effective when
you must leave your pet alone. Studies have shown that a
dog will not toilet in its sleeping area. Do not leave
your dog in the crate for extended periods of time. Even
they cannot hold it forever.
Both
of these methods are very successful in
dog toilet training. Just remember to give them ample time
out of den or crate when you are present to supervise them.
Never scold when you find a mistake after the fact, and never
punish physically. They will not associate the mess with the
deed itself.
