Dog Training and Obedience - What Works and What Doesn't?

A lot of dog owners these days are unable to recognize the importance of basic dog commands and dog behaviour training. What you need to do is supervise your dog as he plays, and make the time you spend with him just as fun, if not more, than the time he spends with other dogs or alone.  If your dog is stubborn and persists on ignoring you, some retraining is definitely needed.  It is therefore, as mentioned above, essential that you teach your dog how to respond to “come here”. 

One thing you need to do is make sure that the “come here” command isn’t followed with something unpleasant.  Calling for him and then giving him a bath or to the vest will quickly teach him that coming to you when he’s called has negative consequences.  One of the best dog obedience tips you can go by is to reward your dog for coming when he is called by giving him a treat or toy. 

You need to remember that dogs are always learning, whether there is a formal training session present or not.  Your doggie is always learning from you in one way or another, whether good or bad.  Thus, make sure that your interactions with your dog are positive ones. 

Whenever you teach your dog to come on command, it’s crucial that the dog be rewarded consistently.  Every single time he does what you want him to, you should give him praise, such as a pat on the head or scratch behind the ears.  Treat based rewards are always welcome, as dogs are usually motivated by food!  When it comes down to it, the key to dog training and obedience is consistency.
