How To Make Your Dogs Potty Training
Stress Free
For very young pups, your dogs potty
training should begin in a den. This can be any room free
of furniture or other dangerous articles. Puppy-proof the
room. A laundry room is ideal for this purpose. Paper the
whole floor, as young pups will not show a preference for
a toileting area until they are at least twelve weeks
old.
This
will be where he sleeps and eats for a time, and also
when there is nobody at home to supervise him. Once the
instinct kicks in, you will notice that he chooses a
special area of his den to defecate and urinate. This is
when you remove all other paper from his
den.
The
dogs potty training can now be taken to the next step,
crate training. Keep in mind that while you are there to
supervise, take the pup outside after each meal to go. If
he does not do his business, take him back out again in a
few minutes until he does go.
Take
him out in the morning first thing, after each meal,
after play time and before you put him to sleep for the
night. Be vigilant when you are present and look for the
obvious signs of his need to go, such as sniffing and
circling, looking for a spot.
If
there is an accident, it is because he was unsupervised.
Do not reprimand the pup if you come across a pile or wet
spot, because he will not associate your disapproval with
the deed. If you catch him in the act, firmly say NO and
whisk him outside to finish. Give praise if he
does.
Crate
training works on the dogs instinct not to mess his
sleeping area, and is highly effective. Never leave your
dog in the crate for extended periods of time, or use it
for disciplinary measures. The crate should be a safe,
secure place for him while you are away or on
trips.
A
dogs potty training using a crate will ensure less mess in
the house. Again, take him out first thing in the morning and
bring him outside before you crate him at night. These
techniques have made dog owners stress free while keeping the
environment clean for a long time.
