Training
Techniques for Dog Obedience Lessons
Have you been getting frustrated over your
dog jumping up and down on people whenever you have
visitors over? Can’t understand why your little angel runs
away from you at the park while everyone else’s pets
always come back to them? The answer to such questions
lies in dog obedience training. You must also have the
right patience and
attitude.
The basics include teaching your doggie to stay, sit, and
come. These basic
commands will be very beneficial to you later on your doggie’s
life. Whenever you
take your dog out, you don’t want him to run all over the
neighbourhood uncontrolled---you want to show him off for being
the perfect doggie that he is!
There are some great dog and
puppy obedience classes available, so if you can’t get your
canine properly trained by yourself, you should consider taking
him to a class.
There he will learn socialization skills, along with how to
behave properly.
He’ll also learn obedience commands. Dogs are a lot like children
in some aspects, except for all the fur. They need to be taught the
difference between right and
wrong.
Treats are always
great for dog training and
obediencetechniques.
You award
your doggies with special treats whenever they’ve done
something right. If they don’t respond
or do so incorrectly, they don’t get a treat. There’s no point in
shouting or being mean to your doggie, as he’ll only
become scared. You obviously don’t
want that to happen. You should want to form
a happy relationship with your
canine!
Whenever you
teach your doggie obedience, try to teach him to stay
away from distractions. Don’t allow him to
become distracted from his toys during his
dog obedience lessons. Instead, take him to a
field or park where there aren’t many distractions or
people. Tell
him firmly, but kindly, that you want him to
sit. Place
your hand on his back and gently guide him down, bottom
first. When
he’s down, tell him he’s a “good boy” and then give him
his treat!
Repeat this over and over again until your dog realizes that
when you say “sit”, he must sit. Eventually, treats won’t be
necessary. Getting
him to “stay” is another matter entirely, and you’ll probably
need help for that. First, get him to sit, then get someone to
hold him while you walk away. Tell him to “stay” as you’re
walking, and hold your hand up for him to
see. Give
him a few seconds and then have your friend release
him.
When he comes to
you, have him sit and shower him with praise and give him
his treat for successfully doing a new
dog
training technique. While using such techniques,
you should always teach him how to “come” to
you. Always
use the word instead of his/her
name.
When puppies are tiny babies they are a lot like
soft clay; they need to be shaped, and you can do as such
with obedience training. At an early age, you can
teach your dog plenty of tricks. The younger you start, the
easier it is, although old dogs can learn new tricks
too!
